This is the short list of all operations you can perform in the Model Xtractor online Diagram Editor and Diagram Viewer, from toolbar icons, operations on selected elements, drag and drop, clicks or double-clicks, key shortcuts.
Toolbar Icons
First group of toolbar icons allows basic operations on current diagram. Other icons toggle general editor options or are used for drawing, for current diagram.
| Save current diagram. Must be logged in. Cannot save empty diagrams. If diagram not owned, it must be cloned first. | |
| Open the published diagram page in a new browser window, with regeneration of images and PDF if the diagram was a draft. | |
| Undo all changes and reload current diagram. All changes will be lost. | |
| Clone current diagram. Must be saved later. | |
| Delete current diagram. Permanently removes it from the database, including published images and PDF. | |

| Show/Hide grid. This will apply to all loaded diagrams from the drawing area. | |
| Switch the Auto Expand mode. In Auto Expand, each new shape can further automatically expand some of its items. | |
| Refresh all current diagram shapes, with their saved items layout options. This could be a lengthy operation and should be performed only when really necessary, to update all elements when something went wrong. | |

Keyboard Shortcuts
When not in a field, in edit mode, these key shortcuts work on the current diagram elements:
| CTRL + A | Select all current diagram elements (shapes and connectors). |
| DEL | Remove all selected shapes and connectors. Connector items will be automatically collapsed. |
| INS | Toggle Hidden status of selected items, based on current status of first selected item. Hidden items appear strike through only when their parent shape or connector is selected, otherwise are invisible. |
| UP, DOWN | Select previous or next item from current shape or connector. Select previous or next node from Diagrams or Metadata. |
| CTRL + click | Multiple item selection, for the same parent shape or connector. Multiple shape and connector selections, if you click on shape headers and connector lines. Multiple Diagrams or Metadata node selection. |
| CTRL + ALT + click | Multiple range item selection, for the same parent shape or connector. Multiple range Diagrams or Metadata node selection. |
Dragging Operations
The IDE of online Model Xtractor applications allows multiple drag and drop operations:
| Diagram node | From Diagrams tab, drag and drop one or more nodes in the drawing area (over whatever diagram is loaded there) to create new tabs with loaded diagrams. Alternative: double-click on a diagram node. |
| Comment node | From Metadata tab, drag and drop the “Drag to add a note” node in the drawing area to create a new empty comment shape. |
| Metadata node | From Metadata tab, drag and drop one or more selected product/container/group/type nodes in the drawing area, to create shapes. If already there, the shape is selected and the operation is canceled. In Auto-Expand mode, the added shape can further automatically expand some of its items. |
| Diagram thumbnail | From the Properties tab, drag the blue selection rectangle of the thumbnail view, to scroll the current diagram area to a new location. |
| Pane splitters | When several panes are expanded on screen, they are usually separated by splitters. Drag the thin bar of such a splitter, to resize adjacent panes. For instance, the splitter between the drawing area and the sidebar can be dragged for a larger or smaller width of the sidebar pane. |
|
|
|
| Selected shapes | In the drawing area, select one or more shapes. Click on one of the shape headers, hold the mouse button down and move the mouse. All selected elements will slide together to a new location. Included shapes will move together with their parent nested shape. Instantiators and implementors will move together with the related shape. |
| Shape items | Select one or several shape items. Drag and drop them outside the shape or (for parents and implemented interfaces) in shape’s header, to expand the items. They would eventually delegate to a connector, with a new shape at the other end. When dropped over another item from the same shape, they switch their place inside the shape. |
| Connector items | Select one or several items of the same connector. Drag them over the drawing area, to a new location. If you drop them back inside the items area of the original shape, they will collapse and move back inside the shape. Connectors left without items are automatically removed. When a connector item is dropped over another item of the same connector, they are both moved to their default location and switch order. |
| Shape selector | From the selected shape, click on one of the rectangular small selectors on the blue selection frame and drag it in diagram’s area. The shape will resize in one or two dimensions. For optimal size determined by the system, double-click on the selector. |
| Connector selector | From the selected connector, click on one of the rectangular small selectors on connector’s lines and drag it in diagram’s area. The connector’s end will take new different direction and orientation. For optimal path determined by the system, double-click on the selector. To create a new intermediate selector, hold Ctrl down while dragging from an existing selector. Double-click inside an intermediate selector to get rid of it. |
| Multiple selection | In diagram’s area, click outside any diagram element, hold the left mouse button down and move it to another location. A blue selection frame will appear between the initial point and current mouse position. When released, all shapes and connectors fully or partially included in the frame are automatically selected. Alternative to select all diagram elements: CTRL + A or toolbar icon. |
Other Operations
Beside the rectangular small selectors from a shape selection frame, there may be other kinds of selectors, like the small circles on the top corners. They perform other specific operations on click, depending on shape’s kind and status.
| Minimized shapes | On selected shapes, click on the filled-in circle selector from the top-left corner of the selection frame. All selected shapes will toggle their minimized status, based on the status of the shape you acted on. |
| Transparent shapes | On selected shapes, click on the empty circle selector from the top-right corner of the selection frame. All selected shapes will toggle their transparent status, based on the status of the shape you acted on. |
| Collapsed shapes | Whenever you select or move over a collapsible shape, a chevron appears in the top-right corner of the title bar. Click on it to collapse or expand the shape. If multiple shapes where selected, they all change the collapse/expand status according to the shape you acted on. |
| Change Contrast | Double-click on the header of the drawing area, to toggle diagram’s Contrast option. When on, the drawing area gets a white background and all shapes are filled with gray. By default, diagram’s background is gray and shapes are white inside (except for the dependency items). Diagram’s background color will always be white (or transparent) in generated images and the PDF print version, and the gray shapes will simply add some contrast. |
|
|
|
| Straight connectors | Double-click on a connector line (but not inside one of its selectors) to switch its straight status. All connector items will also be moved to their default locations. |
| Highlighted text |
Double-click on an item or shape title to toggle its highlighted state. Highlighted items and shape titles appear with a yellow background color. This does not apply to shape category items (see below). |
| Collapsed categories | Double-click on a shape category item to toggle its collapsed state. Category items cannot expand into connectors and, when hidden or empty, automatically disappear. |
|
|
|
| Add diagram | Click on the “+” tab of the drawing area. A “New Diagram” will be added, with the tab selected. |
| Close diagram | Click on the “x” button from the top-right corner of the drawing area. This will close the current diagram tab. |
|
|
|
| Collapsed nodes | Double-click on a collapsible node or click on its triangular icon, to toggle its collapsed state. |
| Collapsed panes | Click the collapse/expand icon of a pane, to toggle its status. The icon appears in the top-right corner when the pane is expanded, or on the minimized lateral bar, when collapsed. |
| Sliding panes | Click the minimized lateral bar of a pane, to slide it in or out. The slide out state looks like expanded, but the pane moves over the other panes. The pane will automatically slide in once you go to another application pane. To pin the pane, expand it for good. |
| Swap sidebar | Double-click on the vertical sidebar’s header to toggle its position from left to right, or back. |
| .NET Attributes | Double-click on the Information pane header to toggle showing .NET attributes in the related documentation. |
